A day after Sudipta Sen’s driver told the CBI of being witness to meetings between the Saradha Group chairman and TMC leaders before the former escaped to Kashmir, TMC MP Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday appeared before the investigating agency to “become a witness” in the multi-crore chit fund scam.
Adhikari, who was summoned by the CBI almost a week ago, decided to act on the summon a day after Arvind Singh Chouhan, who was released on bail Tuesday, revealed before the CBI that he had seen “Adhikari visiting Saradha’s head office at Midland Park in Salt Lake late at night on April 7” where he was “received by Sen on the ground floor”.
This revelation by Sen’s driver, seemingly, vindicated jailed TMC MP Kunal Ghosh’s claim that Sen had met Adhikari and TMC general secretary Mukul Roy before fleeing to Kashmir, from where Sen was later arrested.

While Adhikari rejected Chouhan’s claims yesterday on his meeting with Sen in April, he termed his interrogation by the CBI on Wednesday as one that of a “witness” in the Saradha scam. “The agency asked for (my) cooperation. They called me as a witness. As a central agency, they (CBI) can approach anybody to become (a) witness. However, it would be my decision whether I would agree to their proposal (or not),” said the Trinamool Congress’ MP from Tamluk. Adhikari added, “The investigators asked certain issues related to the company. I am satisfied.” CBI sources, on the other hand, said that Adhikari was questioned over the details of Saradha’s projects in East Midnapore district where the Enforcement Directorate had already identified a property worth Rs 4 crore which it is in the process of attaching.
