VK visits jailed BJP man’s kin, battles SP

3A war of words has broken out between Ghaziabad MP V K Singh and the ruling Samajwadi Party after the Union minister visited the family of a BJP worker, who is in jail on charges of fomenting violence in Loni, the Ghaziabad town that witnessed communal tension on August 18. After meeting the family of Karan Singh on Sunday , V K Singh slammed the police for selectively targeting his party workers in Loni, by implicating them in false cases.Singh also met family members of Sandeep, another BJP worker accused in the violence.
“Karan Singh is a party worker of BJP in Loni and has been implicated in false cases by the police, which was brought to the notice of General Singh,“ S P Singh, the Union minister’s political attaché, said on Monday.

“Sandeep, whose dead body was reportedly found by the police on railway tracks, was also falsely implicated. His body was found on the same night the police conducted a raid in Loni. As he was found dead in suspicious circumstances, his family had demanded for an autopsy but the police turned it down,” SP Singh added.

V K Singh himself was unavailable for comment, but his office said necessary legal assistance, as is permissible under law, has been promised to the family of Karan Singh by the MP.

The Samajwadi Party rubbished charges of a witch hunt. “Actions being taken are strictly in accordance with the law. If someone is innocent, he cannot be implicated in a case and the state government will take due care. We don’t have any qualms whatsoever about the sitting MP meeting the families of the accused. He is the local leader of the party and is free to meet anyone in his constituency,” Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary told TOI.

But another SP functionary, A K Pandit, was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, “Singh’s secret meeting with the family of violence accused raises a question on his fairness. He should have thought before visiting the family.
