A 5-year-old student was killed while 25 others, all aged between 5 and 10 years, were injured after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Noida Sector 49 on Thursday. According to police, the incident took place at 11.30 AM on Thursday morning at RCJ Public School when around 40 school children were attending their class in the premises of the school which was adjoining the wall.

In the incident, two teachers were also injured while the condition of six students was said to be critical. “The students were in the class when the wall of an under-construction building suddenly collapsed on them. After the incident, all injured students and teachers were rushed to a nearby hospital where Sanjay, a student of the school, was declared dead on admission,” said a senior police official. The official said that six students have been referred to Delhi’s LNJP hospital owing to their serious condition. Police have detained Babu Pradhan, the owner of the building, and are investigating the case.

After the incident, Gautam Budh Nagar DM Chander Kant visited the spot and ordered an enquiry into the matter. “We are also investigating if school was also at fault. Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) has also been asked to probe the matter on his own,” the official said.
