HUBBALLI: Sri Rama Sene national president Pramod Muthalik will file a public interest litigation in the Karnataka High Court, seeking a stay on the Kiss of Love (KOL) protest planned in Bengaluru.
Muthalik told reporters here on Sunday: “We have issued a legal notice to the state chief secretary, home minister, Kannada and culture minister and ADGP through our advocate Manoj Hangal. We’ve explained that it will affect our culture and lead to rape and atrocities against women.”
Asked about moral policing, which led to the Kiss of Love, he said he doesn’t support it either. “However, when police fail to discharge their duties, people have no option,” he added, hinting that his men could take the law into their hands again. “If we fail to get a stay from court and stop KOL, we will not allow the event at any cost.”
Mentioning Congresswomen’s opinions against KOL, he said the chief minister and home minister are treating the issue as one of political prestige. “As rightist organizations are protesting, they are keeping the issue alive by leaving it to the police. When a kiss itself is obscene and illegal, where is the need for legal proceedings for permission?” he questioned.
He underlined that even some Muslim and communist organizations are opposing it, and the CM should not take it as a Hindu protest.
He urged Rachita Taneja, organizer of the event, not to degrade women on the streets. “As a woman, she should try to enhance the respect of all Indian women,” he added.
