AHMEDABAD: A special court on Tuesday asked the Supreme Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT) to supply a copy of its 8,000-page closure report to the witnesses of the Gulbarg Society massacre case. In this report of 2012 the SIT had giving clean chit to the then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in connection with the 2002 riots.
The witnesses’ counsel S M Vora had demanded relevant documents from the closure report which was filed following Zakia Jafri’s complaint alleging a larger conspiracy behind the 2002 communal violence.
The witnesses had sought the documents to support of their application demanding that top cops – then city police commissioner P C Pande, then JCP M K Tandon, then DCP P B Gondia and investigator S S Chudasma – be made accused in the Gulbarg Society case for dereliction of duty. This application has been pending before the trial court since last couple of years.
After ordering the SIT to supply copy of its closure report, principal sessions judge P B Desai scheduled further hearing of the application filed under section 319 of CrPC for arraignment of more accused, after the prosecution completes its final arguments in the case.
Earlier, following a similar application three years ago, two accused Rajesh Jinger and Babu Marwadi were made accused in this case and are being tried by the special court.
