Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal today tweeted declaring that five of his party members would submit an application to the Supreme Court for a special SIT probe into funding of BJP, Congress as well as their own.
Kejriwal’s decision comes a day after a breakway volunteer group of AAP alleged that the party indulged in money laundering and financial impropriety. The group, known as AVAM, claimed that four ‘dubious’ companies had made donations of 50 lakh rupees each on the same day and that the party had accepted these ‘bogus’ funds to evade taxes.
Reacting to the allegations, senior party leader Yogendra Yadav said that if the party had to hide facts, it would not have uploaded the details on their website. The party also welcomed any probe into their funding methods.
The BJP, not wasting a minute, backed the allegations.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “It’s a matter of great concern that a party that has called itself anarchist, a party that had threatened to disrupt the solemn occasion of Republic Day parade…has circumvented the law of the land to receive foreign donations. It’s not in the interest of the nation to receive foreign donations… when you connect the dots… it’s a matter of serious concern. The AAP’s donations are illegal. Black money is being routed via shell companies to the party.”
It is also coincidental that AAP’s decision to move the Supreme Court comes on the same day of the BJP releasing yet another cartoon advertisement accusing Kejriwal of accepting black money funds from fake companies.
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled to take place on February 7, both the BJP and AAP have traded barbs against each other, resulting in a fierce contest this time. The election results will be out on February 10.
