MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday extended till February 17 its interim relief to troubled Avadhnama editor Shirin Dalvi from coercive steps, including arrest, by the state.
A division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai was to hear a plea by Dalvi to club and quash multiple first information reports filed against her under IPC Section 295A for outraging religious feelings through deliberate and malicious acts.
The Urdu daily had to shut down following an uproar over it reproducing a controversial cover of French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, featuring Prophet Mohammad on January 17.
As public prosecutor, Sandeep Shinde was busy in another courtroom and could not appear before the bench and make a statement, the HC sought to adjourn the hearing on Wednesday. After Dalvi’s
advocate Mihir Desai cited his personal difficulty to remain present, the hearing was adjourned to February 17.
The bench then extended the interim relief granted on February 9 to Dalvi until then.
