Govt clean chit to Dera in arms training case

imagesCHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Tuesday ruled out any weapons training incidents inside the controversial godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda.

Haryana government informed HC that an inquiry conducted by a committee had not found any arms training on the dera premises by army personnel or anyone else. The report was also placed before the division bench headed by Justice Satish Kumar Mittal.

Counsel for the dera, however, sought more time to file its reply. The case will now come up for hearing on March 13. Taking suo motu cognizance of reports of weapons training inside the dera, the Punjab and Haryana high court on December 30 had issued notices to the Haryana government and the dera management.

The HC bench headed by Justice M Jeyapaul, which is hearing a contempt of court case against defiant preacher Rampal, had taken serious view of an army advisory issued in December 2010, regarding weapons training inside DSS.

Considering it as a serious issue, the bench had observed that search of DSS to unearth illegal arms and ammunition and monitoring its activities on periodical basis is the absolute need of the hour to avoid future bloody confrontation.

In its November 28, 2014 order, the bench had also observed that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is facing two grave cases of murder and rape. Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had recently courted controversy with his movie ‘Messenger of God.
