JODHPUR: A local court here on Thursday rejected an application of actor Salman Khan seeking permission to summon the then DCP and DM of Mumbai as witness in a case filed against him under Arms Act.

The case has to do with the expiry of the licence for guns used by him to the allegedly poach black bucks in Jodhpur on October 1, 1998.

Khan’s counsel had moved the application in the court of chief judicial magistrate on Tuesday stating that the licence of the arms used in the said incident was not expired at that point. He had produced a notice issued by the then DCP and DM of Mumbai on September 29, 1999 asking Khan why his licence should not be cancelled.

The defence wanted to prove before the court that since the incident occurred in 1998, the licence of Khan’s arms was well in force for which they made a plea before the court to allow them to summon the then DCP and DM as witnesses.

This plea was opposed by the public prosecutor who argued that the notice was meant for suspending the licence and not related to its expiry which has happened long before the incident took place.

Admitting the arguments of the prosecution, the court rejected the application of Khan and turned down his plea to summon the officers as witness.

Khan’s sister Alvira had arrived in Jodhpur on Tuesday with the copy of the notice to be produced in the court and remained present in the court on Wednesday during the arguments on the plea.
