Spreading rumours about the apprehended juvenile’s mother may have led to the brutal murder of an 18-yearold boy in Haryana’s Murthal, police said.

The teenager’s charred body was recovered from Murthal earlier this week.

The accused have been identified as Varun Jindal and Parth Vajpayee. The third accused is a 17-year-old boy.

The accused first strangled the victim and then pumped three bullets into him, before setting the body on fire, the police said.

The juvenile allegedly strangled his childhood friend while they were returning home on a Scooty after dinner at Murthal.

The juvenile was accompanied by two others, also booked in the murder case. They were riding another Scooty.

The minor was produced before a juvenile justice board on Wednesday where he confessed to the crime. Police sources said he showed no signs of remorse. On the contrary, he wished to go to jail.

“The boy claimed that he had planned the murder with his friends a week ago. He had been carrying three pairs of clothes while leaving for Murthal. All three changed their clothes after murdering the boy. They dumped their clothes, the victim’s mobile phone and the pistol used into the Sector 18 canal in Rohini,” an investigating officer said.

“Around 1 am on Sunday, as the four friends reached Kamaspur village, they rode towards an isolated place near the amusement park along GT Karnal road and strangled him from behind,” said a police official.

A case of murder has been registered at Murthal police station.

In an attempt to hide his identity, the suspects burnt the body of the victim on the spot. “They went to a petrol pump and purchased fuel worth 85 and then ignited the victim’s body,” claimed a police officer.

The accused, however, did not return home the next day and spent the day wandering around in Rohini. They partied on Sunday night at a pub in Gurgaon.

“The juvenile and the victim had come to blows three months ago. A report was also filed by the victim’s family at the Prashant Vihar police station. The families later took back the complaint,” said a police officer.

The juvenile called his mother on Monday morning, who later handed over the three to the local police.
