SC notice to Centre on plea seeking cancellation of AIPMT

download (7)The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre, Haryana government, CBSE and Medical Council of India on a bunch of petitions demanding cancellation of the 2015-16 All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) examination on grounds of largescale irregularities.
A bench of Justices A K Sikri and U U Lalit sought responses by May 21 when the case would be taken up for further hearing. Senior advocates Gopal Jain and Prashant Bhushan appeared for the petitioners, who sought a directive that exam be conducted afresh in view of paper leak, mass copying and several such instances of irregularities in holding the exam, especially in Haryana.
Citing news reports, the petitions stated the examination conducted on May 3 stood vitiated in the light of a probe carried out in several states, which suggested widespread ramification of the alleged leak of answer keys.
They argued that counselling or admission on the basis of “vitiated examination” will violate Articles 14 and 21 (rights to equality and life) of the Constitution with respect to genuine candidates.
