SC orders Haryana police to identify beneficiaries of AIPMT paper leak

SC sought a fresh progress report from the Haryana police on Tuesday.
SC sought a fresh progress report from the Haryana police on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Haryana Police to identify the beneficiaries of paper leak and other irregularities of the 2015-16 All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT).
A bench led by Justice A K Sikri said that the court would first try to segregate those who benefitted from the illicit means from the genuine candidates so that exam and admission schedule are not disturbed.
“Cancellation of exam is the last resort. If the police is able to identify those who received the benefits of irregularities, there may not be a need to hold exam afresh,” said the bench.
It sought a fresh progress report from the Haryana police on Tuesday while directing the police of all the states and telecom service providers to render all assistance to Haryana police in nabbing the culprits.
The Investigating Officer informed the bench that six accused had been arrested so far but the kingpin was still at large. He said that more than 70 mobile phones were used across the country by the accused to transmit answers. These phones were destroyed soon after the exam got over on May 3.
