Commending the National Green Tribunal for its efforts, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere with the tribunal’s order to ban in Delhi vehicles that are more than 15 year old.
A bench led by Chief Justice H L Dattu dismissed an appeal by a private party against the NGT’s order which banned diesel vehicles that are more than 10 year old and petrol vehicles older than 15 years.
“One tribunal is trying to do something which is good for people. Let us assist them and not discourage them,” said the top court.
It also underscored that such a ban was also imposed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court earlier and the apex court had ratified this order while dismissing the appeal.
“The NGT is only repeating the orders by the Constitutional Courts,” it added.
