NEW DELHI: A day after Sankalp Anand, son of Bollywood lyricist Santosh Anand, committed suicide, the family members have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.

Sankalp and his wife jumped in front of a speeding train in Mathura on Wednesday.

According to family members, Sankalp was being pressured by his seniors to commit a fraud from a recently allocated development fund worth ` 250 crore.

“He (Sankalp) led a very simple life and didn’t show any signs of pressure on him. But the letter he wrote before committing suicide shows the extent to which he was being pressured to do something illegal,” said Yatharth Sharma, Sankalp’s cousin.

Sankalp, 39, along with his wife Naresh Nandini Anand, 35, and their five-year-old child had jumped in front of the train. While the couple died on the spot, the child miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

Sankalp was working as a lecturer at the National Institute of Criminology & Forensic Science in Rohini that comes under the jurisdiction of the home ministry.

Sharad Tripathi, MP from Sant Kabir Nagar in UP, supported the family’s demand.

“I will personally convey the severity of the matter to the home minister and the government will carry out all possible inquiries,” said Tripathi.

Police sources claimed that Sankalp in his suicide note had mentioned about his alleged involvement in an alle ged scam. “Fearing public shame, he committed suicide,” said a police officer.

Several complaints had been also filed in the economic offences wing (EOW) of his department and also in the home ministry against Sankalp. “Of the 15 people Sankalp has mentioned in his suicide note, almost 10 have alleged that he had extorted money from them,” claimed a police official.

“One such person is Sapna Goyal from Gurgaon who had filed a complaint that Sankalp had duped her of more than ` 1.5 crore,” said a police officer. He had asked her for the money on the pretext of helping her get a tender project pertaining to a rehabilitation program in Sri Lanka, he added.

Sankalp had allegedly claimed to be a close aide of a senior Congress leader and assured a businessman of investing the politician’s black money in the businessman’s project.
