Warangal Police today uncovered a seven-member interstate burglary gang after arresting its kingpin, who was about to flee the state with loot worth Rs 24 lakhs.
Accused Erdhar Pawar was arrested by detectives of Warangal Crime Branch when he was about to board a train to Bhopal from the local railway station, said Malla Reddy, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Warangal Range.
Gold-Silver ornaments worth Rs 24 lakhs were seized from his possession.
According to Reddy, the accused was planning to sell these ornaments in Bhopal.
Pawar and six other gang members including a few from Bhil community in Madhya Pradesh carried out burglaries across the country in various states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and MP, the DIG said.
Pawar, a native of Bheegoli village in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh had mobilised all these members to carry out burglaries, he said.
On March 23, the gang conducted ten burglaries at Mamnoor Police Camp of Warangal City, pocketing gold ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh, police said.
The accused used to work as labourers in the day and became robbers by night, Reddy added.
While Pawar has been apprehended, six others are absconding. Police teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
